An open letter to Dena Higley and Josh Griffith
Mr. Griffith,
I don't know much about you other than your time as head writer at Y&R. Those of us loyal fans who have watched Days for 2 decades are hoping that you are going to be doing at least 75% of the writing. I wish you nothing but the best in your effort to fix this mess.

Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful time away from the show and you are full of wonderful ideas that you and Josh can work with.. I think that you and I can both conclude that the past work you wrote and that i watched was not up to par with the soap genre. The viewers who are burned by your bad writing want to love and trust you again. This letter is negative, but my goal in writing it is for you to see how much we the fans care about your work. We care if it's horrid and we care if it's outstanding.

There are a few things that we do NOT want to see again. So if you have any of these in your long term story, I would re-evaluate using that material. We do not want to see Hope Brady running around town at night knocking people out again. We don't want to see any new characters. The Cast is big enough as it is. It actually needs to be cut, cut, and cut again.
I will say something that I think a majority of the fans actually think. Some may disagree with me, but overall it's implied that these characters need to go on and do better things with their careers. This is in no way saying I (or we) hate these actors, we just do not feel they are the best fit.
The younger set needs to go! Lets take a look at each Actor/Character:
- JJ - He is by far the most improved younger actor on the show since he started. Casey Moss is the best younger set actor. I Just don't see where he could have a beneficial long term character.
- Abby,Chad,Jordan, - Yawn! Abby could head to England or South Africa to work on a big editorial piece. Jordan in on her way out. I feel sorry for her being there for 2 years with NO story! Chad needs to follow Abby out of town.
- I would save Teresa because she does well in the 30/40 year old set!
- I would also save WilSon and Paul. They are currently driving the story. Not just the gay storyline, but the entire show.
Here are some possibilities
- Pick up the phone and call Sony and beg them to get Eileen Davidson back from the Young and the Restless. It was done before and it can be done again depending on work schedule and money for Eileen. She is a queen and deserves the best. Make it happen. Take a look at the ratings from 2 years ago until about 6 months ago, and that will show you how important Eileen is to this show.
- Thaao P & Leann Hunley aren't doing anything that they can't get out of or work around. Offer them some money and get them back. Tony has history with both Kristen and Anna. John Black could also come into the story with his history with Tony and Kristen.
- Mary Beth Evans - I'm sure this wonderful actress would love to show up more than once a month to save someones life at the hospital. Maybe we could get Stephen Nichols back or just put her with someone else.
- Aloma Wright - She could do wonderful as a "b" player on the show. Put her with Abe and let Salem meet their EEO again. Fans love Maxine and James Reynolds isn't doing anything!
- Use old Aunt Maggie and Victor more. They are beloved by many. Hell, their storyline could be horrible, but as long as you have Maggie on the set, it is tolerable.
- Call Louise Sorel and beg her back. I don't think she will ever come back after what was done to her from her last stint on the show, but it is worth a try. You already have Victor and Kate around to use with Vivian.
